Lovely weather for ducks

12/7/2012

It's raining again! They say lovely weather for ducks and our Runners do love it, usually they are some of the first to go to bed but when it rains like this they stay up all night.
Even the horses have come in for their second night in a row in the stables.
The grass is growing well, potentially lots of hay but we cannot cut it in this weather and we have now reached the point where there is too much just to let the animals graze it.
Our last batch of hatching eggs have just been set in the incubator, watch for news of them hatching in 3 weeks time.

The grass is now growing well, hopefully we will soon get a dry spell allo

The runner ducks are growing fast and now have a new home on the patio.
Today was their first day of exploring, Daisy the cat can be seen watching on.
Now that they have feathers the ducks can have a larger pool of water, they thought this was great fun as the video below shows.

We now have a range of youngstock growing on.

Rocky's first babies are deveoping well and the first cockerel has started to crow. We are hoping that the hens will be good layers with large brown or blue/green eggs. If the hens are as we hope we will continue with this cross next year and have hatching eggs, youngstock and point of lay birds available .

Bertie's babies are also continuing to grow, once sexed we will be offering some of these black orpingtons for sale.

Mrs duck has done us proud and hatched 13 ducklings, she brought her babies out to show them off for the first time this morning.Pictures will be available soon.

We have also hatched a number of mallard x campbell duckings in the incubator, we will be starting to offer these for sale shortly.

Busy Friday

Friday started with chicken houses being cleaned out and chickens being moved around making room for eight new hens who are just starting to lay. The hens were collected and settled comfortably into their new home.
We had been planning to collect 50 bales of hay for the horses and cows over the weekend but as the weather forecast was not good we collected late on Friday afternoon instead.
By 7.30pm the hay was stacked, the animals put to bed and we were on our way home. A big thank you to Dad for his help; those hay bales were heavy.

The new birds are just starting to lay we will therefore have more chicken eggs for sale.
